dr browns or ventaire?
I have twins, both about 5 weeks old, both cry all the time! I do everything you could think of, I check to see if the diaper is dirty, then I check to see if they are hungry, then I check to see if they need to be burped, then I hold them…..and then repeat the process….I took them both to the hospital after living on 45 minutes of sleep a night for one week and coming down with bronchitis from a neglected cold that I couldn’t recover from due to the lack of sleep. The doc told me it could be colic and to purchase better bottles…so after some research I am looking at Dr Browns and Playtex Ventaire. I currently use Playtex, the ones with the disposable liners. Any advice from somebody who has expieriance with either brand would be greatly appreciated!! Also, tried gripe water with both girls, and it makes them vomit thier entire bottle. No reflux, or anything like that.

I went throu the same thing, i have twins myself but their 1 now. I had such a hard time. I used the ventaire. Its probably gas. I used one drop of mylocon on each feeding, and let me tell you it worked. One of my twins had reflux, her doctor recommended me putting cereal in her bottle. Make sure they burp after each feeding, because if you don’t they will throw up and get refluxes. Try to put them on their stomach for 5 mintures about 3 times a day, that helps with their gas too, but makesure your watching them. Gripe water didn’t work with my kids either. Sweetie, its going to be hard, but hang in there. They grow fast. Just put them in swing or bouncer if you have one. But as soon as they turn 6 months, don’t use the swing anymore bad habit.
Good luck
I like the Dr. Browns.
My son suffered from colic . Now he is 4 months and thanks god he not suffering from it any more. I used avent bottles and b free these are like dr browns . I went to the pediatrion and told me it was from the milk and tryed to change the milk but he wouldn t drink much of the new one so I went to the old one. My GP gave me infacol before each feed though it didn t work much….I then tryed Aero OM 10 drops before each feed this contains saccharose if you don t find the same brand.
Heliked it at least he tasted some thing sweet I still put some drops on the soother.
Now I give him bottles he drinks most comftably NIP from germany not for colic normal bottles cheaper and funnier with dogs and giraffes on them he preferes them.
My advice is not to change to many bottles since that each time you try a different bottle baby has to learn to drink from it. Useless to change formula . Just be patient and get someone to help you at home so you won t be frustrated – get a good sleep when you can joking I know it s imposibble …and maybe it s a normal tendency in some babies and they get out of it on the 3th month. Keep them warm.
DONT USE VENTAIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has bpa in it.. it can kill your baby… check out this website..
http://www.chej.org/BPA_Website.htm its in the bottle.. stick with the playtex drop ins….
here is a list of bpa free bottles and sippy cups : http://safemama.com/2007/11/22/bpa-free-bottle-and-sippy-cup-cheat-sheet/
I use Dr Browns and they work for my baby, along with mylicon drops. And they have NEW BPA-FREE bottles. Check out babies-r-us!
If you are using Playtex drop ins and pushing all of the air out, then I don’t think the bottle is the problem. I assume you are using formula. Maybe the formula is what is wrong. Have you tried a different kind? I think you need to discuss this with your doctor to see what other things to try.
Formula or breast milk? What Formula do you use? Don’t use Dr Browns they are the worst rated bottle for containing Toxic levels of BPA. Look up Toxic baby bottles for more info.
Playtex ventair I tried for my son who had colic. The wider ones have very hard nipples and my son had a hard time latching on, which means that he sucked in a bunch of air. So i tried the thinner style. The stage 1 nipple was to fast for him. Also the whole for the nipple is an x, it is very easy to rip it more when you clean it with a nipple brush. I ended up trying a ton of brands(advent, gerber, medela, evenflow, target and walmart versions, mam, first step, but ended up using the playtex with disposable liners,(what you are using) those worked the best. I would consider switching formula, try a soy or hyperallergenic formula. I used Nutramigen. Expensive but it worked! My son was also constipated a lot so I had to add prune juice to his milk to keep him regular – that helped a ton!!
Born Free bottles, they have an air vent system to reduce air intake and are BPA free!
http://www.newbornfree.com
i read somewhere that they are like BPA free Dr Browns bottles
I was thinking the same thing as Carebear…Ventaire bottles do contain BPA so if that is something you are concerned about, I would look for something else. I did use the Ventaire bottles previously and I didn’t notice a difference between those and regular bottles.
I hope this helps!
Dr. Browns are good but no better than the drop ins. And the drop ins have no BPA. Make sure you are pushing all of the air out of the liner. Also giving them mylicon or gerber gas drops before the bottle helps a lot.
You can use Infacol if it`s colics and the babies cry pretty bad
The bottles I am using now are Born Free. They have a system buid in to reduce colics. I am pleased with these bottles and my baby likes them too, he is 8 month old now. I hope you have enough help with the girls and don`t lose hope: by the time they are 3 mo old this will all be like a bad dream and you`ll be laughing and having fun together
You poor thing, colic is the WORSE and I speak from experience, but you have it x’s 2 so its even worse.
I used both the bottles, so I will give you my pro’s and cons.
Dr. Brown:
Pro-seems to work better with not letting your baby suck air and helped with my sons colic.
Con- waking up in the middle of the night or being in a hurry and having the clean ALL the parts of the bottle are a pain, especially at 3 am feedings.
Playtex-
Pro- Easy to clean and manage
Con- after awhile they start to leak, and no matter how many times you try to stick the little suction thing into place, they still leak and you have to buy a whole new set.
both are about the same in price. I know for sure at Wal-mart where I live for Dr. Brown’s, 3 bottles, is about 13-14 dollars. I think thats about how much I paid for the Playtex at Babies-R-Us.
I have never tried Dr. Browns bottles, but I do use the Ventaire. I love them. I saw a post about their’s leaking, but I have had mine for 8 months and they have not leaked yet. My son never had bad colic so I don’t know if he just did not get it or if the bottles helped.
I tried both. I hated cleaning the Dr. Brown’s, and I found that the baby had trouble getting the liquid from the bottom of the straight bottles. Our favorite bottle is the Ventaire. I like the angle as well as the fact that it is easy to clean by taking the bottom off. From what I am reading, the FDA is not worried enough about BPA to require it be taken off the market. One thing–if your babies have trouble drinking from the Ventaire nipple, don’t hesitate to swap it out, even though the packaging says you have to use theirs. Standard nipples with holes work fine and are easier for many babies to drink from than the Playtex ones with flaps. I use the Evenflo nipples with the Ventaire bottles.
Born Free bottles have a nice internal vent system to alleviate gas, and they are BPA free too.
